Kristen Hohn, M.A., RPA, is a historic preservation specialist and professional archaeologist with more than fifteen years of experience in cultural resource management, public-sector preservation, and archaeological research throughout New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic region. She is the founder and principal of Hohn Historical Consulting, LLC, where she provides expert historic research, regulatory review, and interpretive services for public agencies, consultants, and community organizations.
Kristen currently serves as Principal Historic Preservation Specialist with the Monmouth County Park System, a role she assumed in September 2025 after progressing through increasingly senior preservation positions within the agency. She joined the Park System in 2017 as a Historic Preservation Specialist, was promoted to Senior Historic Preservation Specialist in 2022, and now leads complex preservation initiatives that integrate research, compliance review, planning, and public interpretation. In these roles, she has conducted and overseen historic and archaeological research, evaluated cultural resources, reviewed consultant reports, and supported state and federal compliance efforts, including Section 106 review.
In parallel with her public-sector work, Kristen has served as Principal of Hohn Historical Consulting, LLC since 2022. Through her consulting practice, she offers specialized support in historic research, state and federal compliance review, grant and consultant report evaluation, subcontracting services, lectures and guest speaking, and guided historic tours. Her consulting work reflects a balance of technical expertise and public-facing interpretation, helping clients navigate regulatory requirements while engaging meaningfully with historic places and stories.
Kristen’s professional background includes more than seven years with A.D. Marble & Company, where she advanced from Archaeological Lab and Field Technician to Crew Chief and ultimately Archaeological Field Director. In these roles, she managed archaeological field investigations, supervised crews, conducted laboratory analysis, prepared technical reports, and contributed to compliance-driven projects across a wide range of site types and periods. She also worked as a part-time Archaeologist with Hunter Research, Inc., further expanding her experience with regional cultural resource management projects.
Earlier in her career, Kristen served as an Archaeological Assistant at Monmouth University, supporting academic research and fieldwork while completing her graduate studies. This role reinforced her strong foundation in archaeological methods, archival research, and material culture analysis.
Kristen holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from Monmouth University, with a concentration in Historical Archaeology, and is a member of the Lambda Alpha Anthropology Honors Society. She also earned a Certificate in Historic Preservation through the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities (MARCH) at Rutgers University–Camden, a program she completed over several years while working full time in the field.
Throughout her career, Kristen has been committed to advancing best practices in historic preservation and archaeology while making the past accessible to broader audiences. She regularly contributes to public education through lectures, presentations, and tours, and is known for her ability to translate complex research and regulatory frameworks into clear, engaging narratives. Her work reflects a deep respect for historic resources, careful attention to detail, and a collaborative approach grounded in both scholarship and practical experience.
